Trailblazing has been the business of JPL since it was established by the California Institute of Technology back in the 1930’s. America’s first satellite, Explorer 1, was created at JPL. In the decades that followed, JPL has sent robotic crafts to the moon, and a spacecraft to chase comets and collect dust samples. The flagship explorer “Cassini” continues its orbits of Saturn, scrutinizing the ringed planet and its moons. Don’t forget “Spirit” and “Opportunity,” rovers probing the surface of Mars. There is a lot going on at JPL. Our 2.5 hour tour takes us inside the Visitors’ Center, the Space Flight Operations Facility, and the Spacecraft Assembly area.
